Dr. Karen Zakharian brings more than a decade of practice experience to his position with Intermountain Healthcare. He was attracted to our organization because of our value-based care model, which is a more patient-oriented approach.

Dr. Zakharian says his primary objectives are to engage patients to actively participate in their own healthcare and to put a smile on their faces as they realize they are improving.

Dr. Zakharian earned his MD from Yerevan State Medical University in Armenia, and his master’s in public administration from Indiana State University. He performed his residency at Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital. His background includes working in orthopedics and traumatology, medical research, and several hospital positions. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Zakharian has published articles in professional journals on topics including spinal neurosurgery and regenerating vertebral discs using stem cells. He is fluent in Russian and Armenian. In his free time, he enjoys chess, reading, travel with his family, and judo.
