Dr. Vance Washington is a self-proclaimed “geek” who had a natural inclination for the sciences. That, coupled with the lack of African American role models, inspired him to pursue a career in medicine. Now as a physician, Dr. Washington hopes to be someone people can look up to and identify with. After receiving his bachelors in science from San Diego State University, Dr. Washington achieved his medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine where he was also named as best dressed medical student. His residency was completed at University of Mississippi Medical Center. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. As a Family Medicine physician, Dr. Washington enjoys taking care of his patients’ long-term health and has special interest in the management and treatment of hypertension, diabetes and the occasional mystery case. Preventative care is also very important to him and he encourages lifestyle changes to help improve a patient’s condition. When he’s not working, Dr. Washington continues to indulge his hobby of reading science fiction books, collecting more shoes, watching anime and playing his many vinyl albums. Dr. Washington admits he’d be a DJ if he wasn’t so happy at being a doctor.
